27 February 2026
In a beautiful moment of love and celebration, a couple from the United Kingdom got married at the Andrew Love Cancer Centre on 26 February 2026.
Chris and Sarah were travelling around Australia in their camper van when Sarah’s stage four cancer sadly worsened, rendering her unable to return home. Faced with this unexpected and heartbreaking reality, the couple made the decision to marry here in Geelong.

With little time to spare, staff and volunteers from across Barwon Health came together to make it happen, from assisting with flowers, hair and makeup and organising the ceremony in the wellness lounge.
It was an emotional and deeply moving ceremony filled with tears and smiles, with friends and family from back home attending online via Zoom.
New groom Chris Wright is overwhelmed by the support the couple has received.
“Everybody has just pulled out all the stops,” he said.
“The fact that everybody helped organise this at such short notice is incredible. The whole support from the doctors, nurses, support staff and everybody in between has been truly overwhelming.”
The couple first met at school in 1979, and whilst they eventually went their separate ways, they reconnected on Facebook around 10 years ago and have been together ever since.
Their relationship has been built on a shared passion for adventure and they have travelled to many destinations across the globe with each other. From their first schoolyard meeting, their relationship has been a journey of reconnection, adventure and shared passions.
Moments like this reflect the compassion and dedication of our teams who go beyond clinical care to support what matters most to our patients and their families.
We are honoured to have played a small part in Sarah and Chris’ special day and we wish them comfort, peace and precious time together.
